So the weather has been so unpleasant lately, that I've been more concerned with keeping warm than with style. I recently bought some industrial Sorel boots since my current pair are on their last leg. This is seriously a pain in the butt since they didn't even last a whole winter. They didn't do much to keep my feet warm either, which is really surprising since you always hear such great things about the brand. The new ones I got were men's boots (which were cheaper than the women's version for some reason) from Marks Work Warehouse, that I'm pretty sure are used for arctic expeditions or something. They're good down to -73c so if these babies don't keep my feet warm, I don't know what will. I've always had terrible circulation so once it gets to about 0c outside, it starts to be a problem. They're huge and I'm getting a really good leg workout from them. I'm going dog sledding with Dave (his Christmas gift) in February so I needed something that would allow me to be outside for a few hours. I don't want to spend the entire outing complaining because I can't feel my feet, especially considering this is a gift and it's supposed to be fun. Now that I have my giant boots, I should be good to go.

Today is also my 31st birthday, so I wanted to put some effort in my appearance. I had a nice lunch with friends and Dave is in the process of doing the dishes so he can make me pizza from scratch; he makes a great deep dish. I got some pretty sweet gifts too, including a sonic screwdriver (iee!) a massage, and a digital meat thermometer. I have to admit that so far, my 30's are starting off pretty good. My early 20's were a very difficult period for me and I'm glad that it's in the past. I expect some bumps in my 30's too, but I will be better equipped to deal with them. I fully admit to having mixed feelings about getting older. I'm starting to find way more gray hairs than I did before but it helps that I  don't feel any older than I did say 5 years ago.

So for the clothes, all of this outfit was on sale, so bonus points for that. I find that the shirt is a bit big but if I had gone smaller, it probably would have been too small. The shoes are from Payless and are AWESOME. They are a basic round toe wedge but it's not crazy high or anything, so I can walk without feeling clumsy. They are also really cushy inside and are one of the most comfortable shoe I've owned, right out of the box. The colors are pretty basic (they have red ones too but online only) so they're practical, and because it's Payless, they were really inexpensive.

Happy Monday! Today started off sort of crappy but eventually ended up being not to bad. I'm still fighting off the last bit of my cold. Hopefully it won't get worse, but I  did get to spend the entire weekend resting up and watching the first season of Supernatural. I had no idea how good that show is, at least the first season is anyways.

So this orange dress has been in a previous post, and as I mentioned, I have a really hard time pairing it with stuff. I can easily just wear it on it's own but I wanted to try something a bit different. Also, while unseasonably mild, it's still January so warmth was important. I decided to try and pair it with an orange checkered shirt that I've had for awhile now. I don't wear it super often because it gapes a bit at some of the buttons. I usually wear it under stuff  like sweaters or cardigans as a layering piece. I never thought to try it with this dress, but it made sense since it's pretty much the same color. I think it worked out pretty well. I got a lot of comments on it at work, which were all positive. It's also nice to get in a bit of color during the drab winter months.

So for my hair, I'm using one of those bun donuts you see everywhere. I had owned one before but it ended up falling in the toilet. That's a fairly standard rule for me; if it falls in, it's done. Anyways, I was having trouble finding one that wasn't huge, since I don't have enough hair to cover the giant donuts. I found a small one at H&M for a few bucks that works much better than my previous one. The joys of having thin hair. Ah well, not impossible to style, just requires a little bit more effort.

It's been a hectic first week back at work and I'm glad it's over with. I'm already looking forward to the next bit of time off. I've also already managed to catch my first cold of the year, yaaaay...

I had a  bit of a rough start to the day. I woke up quite sick, so I decided to take a few cold pills to try and make it through the day. I really try to avoid taking cold medication if I can, because even the daytime stuff still makes me extra groggy and I always feel like a zombie. I made myself a quick breakfast and ended up choking on my granola and having a terrible coughing fit for about 10 minutes. You know that bit at the bottom of the cereal box that's pretty much just dust and crumbs? I managed to choke on that. After that,  while I was struggling to take out the trash,  I tripped over my garbage can lid and face planted right into a wall. All this and it wasn't even 8 am. The rest of the day, while not terrible, wasn't great either. At least it's Friday and I have the whole weekend to try and feel better.

So clothes wise,I wanted something super comfortable, since I was clearly having a not so great day. I dunno what it is about wearing a tuque when you have a cold that's so comforting. All of the elements of this outfit are fairly basic, but I still tried to make it a bit special. I didn't have any appointments today so I didn't feel the need to try and look all spiffy, but I also can't rule out someone just stopping by either. The shoes are super sparkly and the top has little gold polka dots all over it. Just because I feel like crap doesn't mean I have to look it.

I'm keeping it a short post because I just really want to have a bowl of soup and then sleep it off. Not the best start to the new year but I've had worse.

First post of the new year and first day back at work after a much needed rest. I've been wearing sweat pants for  most of my vacation and it was great, but it's also nice to get back in to the swing of things outfit wise. Besides, I hop into PJ's fairly quickly once I get home anyways.

I decided to take this semester off from school since the last month has been overwhelming with both work and personal stuff that hasn't completely died down yet. I had to think about if I would have the time to really devote to a course this term and figured maybe the break for a few months would be what I need to let things settle down a little. I am a bit disappointed in myself since I was aiming to take at least 1 course a semester, but I also know myself well enough to realize when I might have a bit too much on my plate. It's already taken me almost 10 years to chip away at a degree, whats a few more months?

So for this outfit, was the results of some boxing day sales hunting. The skirt and sweaters were both on sale by a significant amount so I'm pleased that I didn't spend much. I have pointed out before that I am big into the nautical theme and though this would be a good example of that, while still keeping me warm. It was much nicer today than it has been in awhile since last week was getting to around -30C with the wind, so I figured I could get away with a skirt. I'm not sure if I will be able to still do so over the next few days. The skirt was a steal from 60$ to 9$ and the sweater was only 15 bucks. Good haul if I do say so myself. The next few outfits will probably include more items that I found on sale over my vacation.
