Primary colors

I hope everyone is having an awesome New Years eve. I was originally going to go to a party, but for the first time in awhile, Dave finishes work at a reasonable hour; before midnight. We're hoping to do the classic dinner and a movie outing. Not that I don't love watching Doctor Who or Once Upon a Time in our PJ's, but it's a nice change to actually go out since I'm usually the one who doesn't like going anywhere. I love staying at home, given the chance, since working 9 to 5 and going to school can be exhausting.

This was the outfit I had planned for this evening, but that quickly changed when I went outside to walk the dog. Needless to say, I am now wearing very warm and very thick pants. Kind of bummed out, but still really looking forward to a nice night out.  This outfit was actually quite inexpensive as far as the individual pieces go and I hadn't really thought about pairing them all together since they were all pretty bright. I usually need some black in there to break it up a bit, which would have been tights. However, not even my fleece tights could keep me warm out there today. Every once in awhile, I seem to forget that I live in Canada. Anyways, point being, the individual items aren't covered with crazy patterns or anything, so I think it worked out just fine since the primary colors make it interesting enough.

I manged to get some really great deals during the boxing day sales that were going on, and can't wait to start working with some of the new items I got and for dirt cheap. I got a skirt that was originally 60 bucks plus tax for 8$. You just have to be willing to fight the crowds to get them. I also got once of those memory foam kitchen mats for in front of my sink so my feet don't hurt when I do the dishes. I got really excited about that, more than I ever thought I would. Dave says it's because I'm getting older; I say, I just love comfort.

Also, big thanks to Dave for cutting my hair last night. I can't cut my bangs to save my life, so he ends up doing it for me when they get to be too long, or when I can't get to my friend Alison, who cuts them for me at work. (During breaks of course) I had forgotten though, or rather wasn't paying attention to the fact that he was drinking wine when I asked him to cut them. Even when slightly intoxicated, he still does a better job than I ever could :)

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have happy and safe holiday season.

It's been a long day, as I spent a good chunk of it preparing supper for this evening. Dave made all the meaty stuff ; ham and turkey, and I made all the other parts. The only thing I have ever really been confident in is my stuffing. Everything else is just winging it. To be fair though, my stuffing has bacon in it, so it has to be good. Bacon fixes everything.

It's been a pretty good couple of days, Tengen test results and x-rays went well and shes doing fine. She had gotten quite sick last week and what with her being 10 and also having cancer, it can cause quite the scare. She's doing fine though now and is still the best dog ever. I also got my grade back from my class. As you might recall from my last post I was on the verge of bombing a class because I misread  the drop off time for my exam. Well my professor was super nice and decided to grade it anyways, switching my grade from a potential D- to a B.

I'm keeping it short this post since it's Christmas, but this was the dress I bought for a holiday party I was too sick to go to. I figured now is the perfect time to get some use out of it.

Hello all. Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks. I had a lot of stuff happen in a very short amount of time and became a tad overwhelmed to say the least.

First off, I got gastroenteritis which incapacitated me all of last week. I used to catch it all the time back in the day to the point where I was almost used to it. This time though hit me like a ton of bricks. I lost almost 7 pounds in a week because of it, which is a little worrisome. Not because I'm under weight or anything obviously, but simply because being sick like that can be brutal on your system, and I have never lost that much from being sick before. I know it's temporary though, thanks to the holidays :) I was also quite scatter brained with my  take home exam. I had misread the drop off time as between 11 am and 12am ie: midnight, so when I arrived at 3pm I couldn't understand why the office wasn't open. Turns out it was a drop off time between 11am and noon. I shoved my paper under the door, freaked out a bit, cried like a baby because it was an obviously stupid oversight on my part, and then e-mailed my professor. He was quite understanding, but I had prepared myself to potentially get a D- in this course because I can't read a sheet of paper properly. This combined with some personal family drama and a sick dog made for a long couple of weeks. The worst of it should be over though now, onward and upwards right?

Come Thursday evening, I will be off from work for 2 weeks which is awesome. After these past 2 weeks I really need a break. I'm hoping for nothing but relaxing and gaming for those days. Dave was sweet enough to give me my  Christmas gift early which was a WiiU Legend of Zelda bundle. I played Wind Waker back on Game Cube but it is still an awesome game and I love playing it again. I think he won Christmas this year, not that I'm complaining.

I've posted this pom pom sweater before but I decided I would post this outfit, because 1, it's been awhile and 2, I consider this sweater to be quite practical even if it's covered in pompoms. I'm really hoping to have some more outfit posts in the next couple of weeks. I was too sick to go to one of my office parties and was bummed out, since I had ordered a dress for it.

I also figured the straight hair was a nice change of pace. My hair might not be thick but it is curly so it can still be pretty hard to style sometimes. Providing the weather is not a complete write off, I will take the time to flat iron it so it's all silky smooth. I also do it to see how long my hair is getting since sometimes you really can't tell with curls.

Color Blocks

The last couple of days have been really productive on the shopping front, what with all the sales going on. As I had mentioned in my last post, I managed to snag a dress from Banana Republic for a fraction of it's original price. The fabric had a bit more of a sheen than I was expecting, but I put it on and it fit a lot better than I had hoped. No pockets this time around but it has those little snaps with the threads sewn into the straps of the dress for your bra. This is another  one of those things where I don't understand why it isn't standard with clothing. It's the little things that make all the difference, especially if you're paying full price for a dress like this, which was going for around 185 plus tax.

I'm waiting for another purchase from Mod Cloth since they were having a huge sale. I missed out on some of the good deals, like a dress that was covered in cupcakes, but I still managed to get some goodies.I also bought one of those random 15$ purchases. I got a really nice dress out of it, but since it was strapless, I gave it to a co-worker. When I try on strapless dresses I always take into consideration if I could maybe have straps added. This dress had a lot of extra fabric I could work with but because of the boning and whatnot it would have just looked odd. Oh well.

I'm struggling to work on my exam right now since I have so much to do around the house and for the holidays. It seems like anything is an excuse to not work on it. I went Christmas shopping, we had to put up the tree, stuff like that. I would  much rather cook and clean then work on a paper. I'm even writing this instead of doing it...sigh. I think I might be in a need of a bit of a break but luckily I have 2 and half weeks off from work for the holidays. It'll give me a chance to catch up on all that sweet gaming I've been missing out on.

This is a short post because I am clearly procrastinating and should get back to work.

So yesterday was my last class of the semester and I'm in somewhat high spirits. I have a take home exam due on the 9th and then I'm free until January. I decided I would spend some time decorating my work space for the holidays, so I spent most of the day covered in glitter.

I recently got the new Legend of Zelda game and while I haven't played too much of it(due to school), so far it's been really great. I had just "finished" Pokemon Y so it could not have come at a better time. I put finished in quotes since I mean I beat the elite four and whatnot. What it really means is now I get to do all that awesome extra stuff in order to complete the game properly. Right now I am on the hunt for Articuno, since it always runs away from you. I really hate that and I refuse to use my Master ball...Ah the life of a Pokemon trainer.

So on to the clothes. This is a sweater that was purchased online at good ol' Banana Republic. As usual this was on the "wait for it  to be cheaper" list, since it was going for 80+ bucks. I waited for some coupon codes and manged to get it for around half price. Speaking of coupon codes, if you sign up for the Banana Republic mailing list they send you a 25% off code, which can be combined with the 40% off codes that got going on for the pre-Black Friday sales. I managed to get a dress that was originally going for 200$ for like 80$, so it's definitely worth it if you like Banana Republic. Black Friday isn't really a thing in Canada the way it is in the States. Sure you can get some pretty good deals and whatnot but it's generally online. Some of the bargains I've seen are incredible but I imagine it's even better in America. If anyone is going shopping on that day, I say good luck to you!

The shoes were purchased after having a bad day at work. They have cats on them to replace the home made cat shoes I posted last time. I had been wanting these shoes for a bit and finally decided to bite the bullet and buy them since I was in a bad mood and needed cheering up. I realize that shopping while upset is probably not the best thing to do, but nuts to that!

I realize that this post is a bit shorter than usual but I have some catching up to do with Doctor Who. I had seen episodes on and off over the years, but never really bothered to give it a proper go...then it was added to Netflix. I imagine I will be tied up for the next few weeks.

I have been in the market for a red dress for awhile now. As it comes closer to Christmas time, the search became a bit more thorough. This dress was on my want list for awhile. It's a fairly basic skater dress but it's really well made and quite comfortable. Again, the pockets are a huge bonus. The back is low enough for my tattoos to be visible as well. Generally they stay covered up, particularly for work, but every once in awhile I like having them visible. They are definitely a conversation starter. I have a cactaur from the Final Fantasy series on one shoulder blade and the triforce from The Legend of Zelda on the other. At one point a couple stopped me at a Tim Hortons to ask me about them. It doesn't happen very often but I enjoy it when it does  since I end up having gaming conversations with complete strangers. Back to clothes; so this dress was originally going for 150$ which is really out of my price range. However, good things come those who wait and it eventually went on sale. I figured it would be a really practical dress and I would get a lot of use out of it.

The shoes have cats on them, which I actually did myself. I really wanted some cat shoes, but wasn't willing to spend the money for them. I just ended up buying a cheap pair of black flats from Payless and used a white paint pen to draw the cat faces on them. I wouldn't wear them out in the rain or anything but they get the job done. It's a great alternative, and only took like an hour or so  to do(I take a really long time when I draw.)

I'm super looking forward to a nice weekend of relaxing and dare I say, homework. I have an assignment that consists in part, of an art piece. I decided to do a drawing based on the Legend of Zelda. I think I'm looking forward to the new game for 3DS which probably sparked this interest artistically. I used to draw all the time when I was younger, however after my mother passed away the desire to draw just sort of disappeared. It was a gradual thing really. She used to be very supportive of my need to draw and study art, but after she was gone I felt as if perhaps I had made a mistake with my choice, and decided to not pursue it anymore. I haven't drawn seriously in well over 6 or 7 years. With this assignment we are meant to explain part of the process of creating the piece. For me, it's meant to combine my love of the game and the grandness of it as a series, as well as the feelings and memories that I had while playing them, which included my mom back seat gaming. Anyways, I hope to have an image of it once it's done and it's nice to be able to really sit down and draw again.

Polka dots 2.0

This dress was purchased to wear to a friends surprise birthday party. It's not that I needed a new dress, but any excuse to get one works for me. She just happened to get engaged at that birthday party, which means I have another excuse to eventually buy another dress bwhahaha! This dress, much like the one from the Halloween post, has sleeves that are too big since I needed to size up for the bust. Again, not a big deal at this time of year since I almost always have a sweater or cardigan on. It also came with a belt which I always enjoy. Can't have too many belts.

We had the first snowfall today, although none of it stayed on the ground. This cold enough to snow weather was the perfect opportunity to try out my new tights. So here's the deal; tights don't do much for warmth during the colder months. I wanted to find a really thick pair that would keep my legs warm but also be actual tights. I'm very picky and I will avoid the legging/sock combo if I can. That weird line it creates when the two meet is a pet peeve of mine. That isn't to say I don't do it, but I am constantly fussing with it trying to get it to look as smooth as possible. Anyways, I may have found the solution to my problem. I found tights that are fleeced lined.  You have no idea how important this is to me. So I wore them out first thing this morning, kept them on all day and walked back home at night in them. They kept my legs nice and warm and managed to cut the wind quite a bit, but I didn't over heat inside at all. They aren't super expensive, although I don't think I have ever paid  more than a couple of bucks for tights. You can find them at Urban Outfitters for around 18$. Would I wear these outside in -30C weather? Probably not, but for this kind of in between weather, they do the job just fine. I'm hoping that this will allow me to wear the skirts and dresses I do own for a bit longer before I have to wear thermals under my pants again.

This is one of my favorite sweaters. It's warm, it's not itchy, it's got pompoms on it and I got it on sale. I had seen this sweater originally on Zooey Deschanel on an episode of New Girl in black and white. I was bummed when it turned out to be J. Crew since their clothing, while nice, is not very affordable. I would check eBay on occasion to see if it popped up, which it did. The problem was that it was still really expensive. I had given up on finding it cheap, when it showed up on the J.Crew Factory website. I was out of luck yet again ,when it was completely sold out. Realizing this though, I checked eBay again and managed to finally get the sweater for a price I thought was acceptable. Of course the black and white one was still more expensive, but I enjoy this grey and bluish/green combo just as much. I find that when stores have sales online and everything is sold out, eBay is the next best thing. I'm pretty sure the original version had pompoms all the way around, where as this one has just on the front and all over the sleeves. My only issue is that when you wash it, the pompoms get all flat and wonky. I used tweezers to try and fluff them up again, but I'm not going to be doing that every time I wash it.

The skirt was purchased from Gap. I had bought it online and really liked it, however I was having a hard time finding something to go with it. I decided that I would return it, since I had still paid 45$ for it. I can't justify spending that much money on something that would not be very practical, no matter how much I liked it. Unless it went on sale even more (I had used a 30% off code for it) I figured this would be a pass. When I went to go pick up my copy of Pokemon Y, the line up was huge, so I decided to kill time in the mall to wait for the line to thin out (it didn't). I hit up the Gap and sure enough, the skirt was now 40% off. I also happened to have a gift card on me so after all that, I got this skirt for 16 bucks! I also managed to pair it with a few other sweaters in my wardrobe, so I guess I just chose wrong the first few times I tried to make it work.

I saw Enders Game over the weekend. I thought it was pretty good. It definitely looks good visually. If you have a chance, check it out. I didn't read the book, but Dave had and he enjoyed it as well.

Sorry for the short post, but that's all for now since it's a school Tuesday.

Flowers (also obligatory Halloween costume post)

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It's one of the few times you can dress up in a costume and nobody thinks it's odd. I usually take this as an opportunity to dress up as characters from video games, cartoons/anime. Some costumes from the past are: Leela from Futurama, Aeris from FF7, a White Mage, Link from the Legend of Zelda, etc.  This year is no different.

So we had an office potluck which was a nice change of pace. Some of my co-workers dressed up which was awesome. I apparently didn't  need a costume though, since someone on the elevator actually asked me if I was wearing this dress as part of a costume or not. I said "Nope. These are just my everyday clothes, thanks for asking." He promptly got off the elevator. I don't  think dress is particularly costume-y at all, so I'm not sure what prompted that comment, other than the brightness. He's lucky he didn't see my real costume...

BOOM! Sailor V is for victory.

So Sailor Venus has always been my favorite Sailor Scout since I was a kid and I always wanted to have a scout costume. The problem? I hate wigs. I especially hate blonde wigs. I always look so ridiculous in them because of my rather pronounced eyebrows, which have gotten better over the years mind you. A friend of mine found these sailor scout costumes over the summer for sale online for 8 bucks!!! She promptly sent out an e-mail to all the friends she knew would have wanted in on this. I didn't see it right away but by the time I did, all that was left was Venus and Mercury. WIGS!!!! *cringe* Anyways, I figured I would at least go with my favorite. All I had to really worry about was the shoes, the red hair bow (which you can't see but it's there) and the wig. The shoes were on sale at Payless and I just spray painted them orange. I'm happy with the end result and I'm looking forward to at least wearing it briefly tomorrow at a friends party. Wigs are hella hot.

So back to my real clothes. This dress is from Mod Cloth. I had been eyeing if for awhile and it eventually went on sale. I had it sitting in my basket for ages until the dreaded "1 left!" popped up. I caved and decided to get it. The fabric is a lot shinier than I thought it would be, but it's actually a nice change to a lot of the cotton dresses out there. The problem though, when I order clothes, is the sleeves. I generally need an XL from places like Mod Cloth because of my chest. Not a big deal,I'm used to that by now, but because of this I run the risk of other parts being too big. This dress is a bit loose in the waist but a belt fixed that. The sleeves on the other had, are just too big. I wore the cardigan to cover it up, which worked fine. I figure once I wash it (just in case it shrinks), I'll ask Dave to maybe fix it for me since he's better at sewing than I am.

On a final note, I am sad to say that my beloved PS3 crapped out on me last night while I was watching Futurama on Netflix. It was 7 years old and I will miss it dearly.

I'm not sure who came up with the no white after Labor Day thing, but nuts to that.

So since it's Tuesday, it means I had class until 8pm. It makes for a long day, so Tuesday posts usually end up being a bit more casual than some of my other outfits. I do still try to look work appropriate though, since you never know who might show up unannounced. That being said, as soon as I get back home I take a photo or 2 and then hop into my pjs and watch something on Netflix. I just finished Happy Endings so now I need something new to watch.

So I do the sweater/button down combo fairly often this time of year, so looks similar to this will probably be a bit more frequent. Not too much though, since part of the reason I blog in the first place is to make sure I keep my clothing interesting and varied.

So this sweater was purchased as a sort of compromise. On one of my many shopping trips, I saw this sweater and instantly loved it. However, even it's sale price was way too expensive for me. I was determined to find a cheaper alternative. This sweater was the end result. They had it in blue as well, but it was sold out in my size so I went with white. It's very comfortable and is great for layering since it's not super thick. I am happy with it, and I'm even happier with the price, since I got it for about 40$. It should still be available online. I decided to pair it with a cat print button down shirt I got from Gap awhile back. I thought it would be cute to wear a cat shirt with a sweater that had, what could be interpreted as, a piece of yarn on it. Also, it happens to be National Cat Day which I had no idea existed until I was at work.  I was telling my friends that my cat, Waffles, had stolen my breakfast this morning. I was told that because it was National Cat Day, she pretty much had the right to steal it. You win this time Waffles. Anyways, Gap has a lot of cute printed button downs and if you're willing to wait a bit most of them will go on sale fairly quickly. Or at least provide you with a coupon code.

As much as I enjoyed this outfit, I did not think ahead about wearing nylons around this time of year. It's not particularly cold or anything, but just cold enough that your legs start to freeze. I went out at lunch to try and find leggings and wouldn't ya know it, Forever 21 was sold out. I was pretty surprised, but apparently I wasn't the only one thinking about grabbing a pair on the first real cold day. I had dinner plans with a friend after work and did not take into account that by the time I got home, that it would be much too cold  for stockings. Lesson learned; check my weather app before I leave the house.

The sweater was another "gotta wait for it to go on sale" items from Anthropologie. I really do love that store, and the sales clerks are starting to recognize my friends and I. I don't know if I should be embarrassed or happy. So what I generally do, is browse the website and dump a ton of stuff in my shopping cart and then I just check back about every other week to see if any of it has gone on sale. Once it does, I head off to the store in hopes that they have the same stock or anything left in my size. This sweater was one of my cart items and I had tried it on and really liked it. However, I decided to wait until pay day and that if it was still there, then I would pick it up. I pretty much ran in to the store and ran out again. I need to walk around in there with blinders or I'd get too distracted by all their "wonderful but can't afford it" clothing. This sweater was originally going for 118$ so I was glad when I got it for 50$

The skirt was a purchase I made at Forever 21 last winter. I wore it a few times but then the zipper broke. It had been sitting at the bottom of my hamper ever since. I decide that maybe I should just have it fixed and forked out the 7 bucks at the dry cleaners. I'm glad I did since it's a perfectly good skirt and very practical.

Wing tips

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving/Columbus day. Nothing like a 4 day work week. This is going to be a short post though since I got home a bit later than usual and I am pretty tired.

So this is another work to school outfit. I haven't been feeling well over the past few days, and I know when I'm feeling pretty crappy, I think I look crappy too. This usually ends up in me putting in a bit of extra effort in my appearance, if only a little. At least it seems that way. All this really means is that I wore a slight heel today instead of flats. I've never been big into heels for many reasons. I mean the obvious is that they are hard to walk in. This can be fixed with a bit of practice. The other is after wearing them for awhile, the backs of my legs start to hurt. I'm sure if I'd  wear them more often, this wouldn't be a problem anymore.  I got these suckers as an anniversary gift earlier this year. I bought Dave War Hammer stuff, and he bought me shoes. This is why we're together :)These particular shoes are only a kitten heel so I feel like I'm wearing grown up shoes but without the risk of falling flat on my face.  You know that  clickity clack you hear when walking around in heels? There is something oddly satisfying about it. Like you have to get somewhere super important, or with more purpose than usual. Maybe it's just me. Wedges are the only other time I can wear a high heel since they're pretty solid, like walking on a big ol' rubber block.

The dress was an Old Navy purchase made at the end of last summer. I find orange a tough color to work with in regards to clothing. I've only worn this dress a handful of times because of it. I almost always pair it with navy blue so if anyone has some suggestions on what else I can pair it with, please let me know.

Black and White

I am a sucker for peter pan collars. I am instantly drawn to them and almost always end up buying a shirt or dress with one. This particular sweater has a removable collar, so I can just wear it as a normal pullover. The collar is probably going to stay on though. It's very thick and cozy, so I'm sure I will get a lot of use out it.

The pants are magic. Magic wonderful pants of awesomness. So like many of you out there, I do not have a washboard stomach. I have a belly, and while it's not huge or anything, it can be noticeable at times depending on what I am wearing (like pencil skirts). Even if you don't have a big tummy, I'm sure if you ate a big meal or something, you'd be a least a little bloated. My next issue is that I like skinny jeans. For some reason most skinny jeans are low rise, so this combined with the fact that I have a belly,  I will get the occasional muffin top or my gut hangs out over the waistband of my pants. Not a particularly attractive look. I have some jeans from Old Navy that are still quite thin legged and mid-rise, but it still wasn't as skinny as I would like.  I have thins thing about the cuffs of my pants pooling at my ankles. It drives me nuts. Then Old Navy decided to make the mid-rise Rockstar jeans. I bought a pair as soon as they were available online. See, their regular length pants are too short for me so I have to go tall, but they don't always carry them in store. I order stuff from the website all the time, and I always manage to get a good deal. The shipping is generally inexpensive and I always get my orders super fast. These pants are not only long enough, but they are high enough to keep my belly where it should be; under my pants, not over them. If there is anything negative about these pants, it's that they attract pet fur like you would not believe. So if you are a tad belly conscious, but like the look of skinny jeans, then these pants are a must.

Unrelated note: super freakin' excited about Pokemon on Saturday. A sad thing to admit, but I have been mulling over which starter to chose for a few weeks now. It sucks that I have school work to focus on, but this always happens. Great games start coming out Fall and into the holidays, right around exams. Thankfully I just have one course this semester,so I should have more then enough time to do both.

Today was one of the first days it started to feel a bit like fall. There was just the right amount of nip in the air that I love. I don't want to say that I hate summer, but I'm one of those people who prefers that in-between weather, where it's not too hot and not too cold. Plus this time of year means everything is pumpkin and cinnamon flavored.

This past week was a bit overwhelming in terms of work and with the added stress of school assignments looming over me (stupid oral presentation) I am in need of a break. Fortunately, Thanksgiving is just around the corner which means a long weekend. Also I'm not going to lie, the anticipation of a new Pokemon game has me really excited. I played Red and Blue back when I was in high school and was instantly hooked. I owned a lot of Pokemon paraphernalia, t-shirts and the card set (including a foil Charizard) and even did a school presentation on it.  However, after Silver and Gold, I sort of lost interest in the games. It's not that I didn't play them, but the level of dedication to being the best Pokemon Master wasn't there anymore. I then played Black and White; it was like I was 15 years old again.  I even started creeping around my local EB games getting event Pokemon via their Wi-Fi. You know, when you don't want to look suspicious by wandering around their store, so you stand outside trying to get a signal; that just draws the attention of mall security. There's a heck of lot more Pokemon since I really played the game thoroughly. I can't wait for the jump to 3D.

So for the clothes, the skirt was a purchase last winter at Anthropologie when they were having a HUGE sale, so it was quite inexpensive. It's got some corduroy and some quilt patches, which makes up one of the pockets. My only concern was trying to pair it with a shirt. I got this sweater at Forever 21 about a month ago with this skirt in mind and thought it would work well. I like foxes, and I am instantly drawn to clothes with a print, so win/win. I'm pretty happy with the result of this pairing.

Polka dots

I have wanted this dress for a really long time, and let me tell you it took forever to get it. So after eyeing this on Mod Cloth for ages, they had a coupon code (something about dogs) over the summer. I decided I would finally order this dress and was super excited to do so.  Well, something happened and it got lost in the mail and being the cheap-ass that I am, I didn't pick the shipping option with tracking. I was pretty bummed when it never ended up coming. Even the order I made  maybe a week after, showed up  with no problems. I waited a bit before deciding to try ordering it again, since I still wanted it. This time it was sent completely problem free. Unfortunately, I ended up paying full price but I got the dress within a week. A small price to pay for a dress that is very well made and super comfortable. I don't think one slightly negative experience would keep me from ordering from them again, especially since their customer service was really great. At worst, I was inconvenienced a bit. Maybe the lesson is to chose the shipping option with a bloody tracking number.

The cardigan was also a full price purchase (I'm slipping you guys.)  It's from Forever 21 which I purchased with the space dress from my last post. The polka dots are fully embroidered into the fabric, which I wasn't expecting. It's also a lot thicker than I thought it would be, which would explain why it hadn't gone on sale at all since it's been available. Even though it has been out since the beginning of summer, you'd be sweating bullets in it. It's defiantly a Fall/Winter cardigan. I feel it was a good purchase though and that I will get a lot of use out of it, which is all that really matters.

Ok so, this outfit managed to get some attention at both work and school: All of which was positive. It is bright, that's for sure. I was hesitant about trying this out for work, but since I didn't have any meetings, I figured I would give it a shot.

I have seen a lot of space themed clothing online and in stores, and I wasn't sure if it was for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about trying new clothing ideas but for the most part I can tell right off the bat if something is not going to work on me. I had tried this dress on several times before I decided to buy it;on sale of course. There was a lot of: "I dunno if I can pull this off" in the dressing room. Even once it was in my closet, I was trying to figure out how or where I was going to wear this dress. The fabric is a bit static-y and it's unlined.  I figured by pairing it up with a black cardigan and leggings, it might break up the intensity of the colors and pattern. I started out with black shoes, but then decided I might as well take a bit of a risk and pair it with equally bright shoes.

These shoes are incredibly comfy and it was another one of those situations of figuring out how badly I wanted something. They came out last Fall/Winter and I waited for what seemed like an eternity for them to go on sale. It just never happened. I decided to bite the bullet and fork out the money for them. My rule of thumb is, unless it's a winter boot or some kind of like proper running shoe (so your knees don't get mangled), I can't justify spending more than 60 bucks on a pair of shoes. I have wavered on this very few times. These shoes are one of those times; Oh the shame. Since I did fork out what I deem to be "the mad cash" on these suckers, I try to wear them as much as I can to justify buying them. Even after all that, I still used a coupon to at least cover the taxes. Obviously after awhile, they were about half the price, but I regret nothing.

Laser cuts

Another long day at work. It's hard to find clothing that transitions well into fall. I have packed away most of my summer clothing and have made way for all my button downs and sweaters. Fall is my favorite season, but it never really lasts. Right now, it's that odd in between part, where its freezing outside when you wake up, but by mid day it's super warm and you're sweating buckets.

This blouse is one of the tops I left out for the upcoming months. This was the other shirt I purchased awhile ago when a friend of mine had 40% off at Anthropologie.  It's got a laser cut print of flowers that's really pretty. It's quite subtle but it really makes this top pop. It's a smaller size than I would usually buy, which was an added bonus. Sometimes I don't get the sizing at Anthropologie. Sometimes I'm a 12, sometimes I'm a 6. Whatever, they make nice stuff and it goes on sale frequently if you're willing to wait.

I got the shoes on sale as well. They have poodles on them, so I was instantly drawn to them. I have some much clothing with animals on them. They fit kind of funny though. 7.5 was way to small but an 8 (which I got) was too big. I had to put insoles in them, which isn't a big deal. What's odd is that they hurt like a bitch when I wear socks. Generally it's the other way around for me. I've worn them before over the summer, but since it was cold this morning, I put on socks that aren't super thick or anything. By the time I got to work, my feet were on fire. Sockless though? All good. Oh well, the things people endure to try and look good.

On an unrelated but very personal note, this past Monday would have marked my moms passing 8 years ago. It's always a particularly hard day for me, so I usually do something that reminds me of her, or things we did together. She and I used to shop and have coffee in mall food courts all the time when she was still around. So I took the day off from work, and had Dave come with me to the mall while I just wandered around and thought about stuff. I didn't buy anything, or do much else to be honest, but it was all I needed, and I appreciate that he came with me.

Montreal had their Comic convention this weekend, so a group of friends and I decided to go. I go every year since Fan Expo (in Toronto) got a little too expensive and a little too crowded for my taste. Montreal's convention is still big and whatnot, but it's easy to get to by comparison and that alone makes the difference, especially in price. I got to check out the Battlestar Galactica panel, since a friend wanted to check it out, plus there were chairs; conventions are murder on the feet.  I'll admit, I have never watched an episode of BSG, but Tahmoh Penikett was on the panel, and I really loved Dollhouse (which he was also in). It was really fascinating, and Edward James Olmos seemed like he was genuinely glad to be there. It's always nice when the guests at conventions seem to like being there. Makes it more fun.

I managed to pick up some cool stuff, including an awesome Luna t-shirt. The shirt I'm wearing is actually a shirt I got last year at the convention. I love Futurama with a passion and I'm really bummed out it got canceled...again. I guess I should be thankful that it was brought back in the first place. Reincarnation was one of my favorite episodes of the newer seasons so when I saw the old timey Fry and Bender shirt, I was for sure going to leave with it.

The jeans by the way, are by far the most comfortable jeans I have ever in owned in the history of EVER. And they were less than 10 bucks! I might have to go back to get more. I always have a hard time shopping at Forever 21. I float between their regular and plus sized clothes, depending on what it is. Plus, their stores are always so big, I get overwhelmed quite fast. However, if you're willing to make the effort to rummage in the most chaotic store known to man, it can be worth it.

All in all, a great weekend.

Ah yes, rainy days. Always messing up my hair with your stupid moisture.  There is no point in styling my hair when it's that odd misty rain that doesn't merit an umbrella but you get sort of damp and you're all "how did that friggin' happen???" I hate that sort of rain, but I will gladly take it over a torrential downpour.

This dress was on sale at Mod Cloth for a bit, so I'm glad I managed to get it when I did. It was a little bit bigger than I would have expected, and it's a bit of a deep v. That's alright though, since I just wear it with a camisole underneath, or as I did today, with a cardigan. It's quite comfortable and I think it will transition well to fall. It's not a terribly thick material so I don't know if this will be a year round article of clothing. Guess I'll have to wait and see. I didn't wear my rain boots all day, but I thought they matched rather nicely with the rest of my outfit and I took this picture after walking my dog Tengen. (Who is the best dog ever by the way)
Look at that face! Gah!!!! I love her to bits.

Also, new glasses! Wooo! I was getting massive headaches over the past couple of months, and after a trip to the doctors for some blood tests to rule out any  serious health issues, I decided to head over to the eye doctors. I've had them for less than a week and it's already made the difference. I was told I look like a hipster by some friends, but they aren't that much different from my old ones and I can see again, which is all that really matters.

I got to go apple picking over the weekend with some friends, which was really fun. I now have to come up with ways to use all these apples. I like them and all, but it's not like they're my go to fruit. I already made a pie and I keep bring them to work with me for my lunch. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions about how to use them in baking, let me know. I like baking and whatnot, but I'm not exactly good at it so  I need something easy I can make. Dave was supposed to make turnovers but I think he forgot again, so I might give it a shot tomorrow after work. I don't know if it'll be difficult, but the pastry is already pre-made, which I imagine is the hard part.

Hello again.  Today was my first day back at school after a much needed summer break. I went to class after a very long work day and was particularly tired. Fortunately, because it was the first class of the semester, we were let out early. Thank goodness, because I could feel my stomach starting to do the "I'm hungry" gurgle which is noticeable in a quiet lecture hall.

So Dave decided to take pictures of his Warhammer figures, and fiddled around with his camera settings. I am not a photographer. I'm that person you hand a camera too to take a group shot and it's like it's alien technology to me. Since then, I cannot for the life of me, get my photos un-blurry, even though I asked him to switch it back to whatever I had it on before, or at least something with auto focus. I've messed up several outfit photos because of this. It's not one of those point and click cameras either, it's those big hulkin' Sony cameras for people who know what they're doing. So...Dave, if you're reading this...little help.

So I have big 'ol blur face, awesome. I think the outfit itself is pretty clear though and I wanted to post something since it's been awhile. This whole outfit isn't anything particularly fancy, but it is super comfortable. This is important if your expecting to be up at 6 am and finishing your day at 8:30pm. Case in point: the shoes. God, I love Converse; they make a damn comfortable shoe. I got these at Target on super sale, which made me very happy.

I  also had the pleasure of going to a friends wedding over the weekend. It was a wonderful time to say the least. I got to get all dressed up and dance, and you know, see a very good friend be the happiest I have ever seen her. I can't dance to save my life, but if you play a Daft Punk I defy you to NOT do the robot on the dance floor. Being the dumbass that I am, I didn't think to take photos, but I know my friends did, so once they post them, I'll see if there was any clear shots of my outfit for the day, as well as my friends beautiful dress. (providing she's ok with me posting it of course.) Random fact: Country club bartenders don't seem to be impressed when you drink out of cans. I say: why dirty a glass!?

So it's wonderfully humid again. It's always odd seeing all the fall stuff come out when it's still 30c outside. Thankfully I have AC, so I just flop down in front of my TV for some PS3. School is starting back up again in the next couple of weeks, so I want to relax as much as I can before then. I'm only taking one course, but what with assignments and everything, there goes all of my free time again for the next little bit. I don't know how I managed to do a full course load and work when I first started university 10 years ago. Maybe it was youth...and coffee. Probably coffee.

Being a bit older while perusing an undergraduate degree does have it's challenges. I clearly can't take classes during the day because of work, which leaves very little choice. Doing group work is next to impossible; your only days off are weekends and generally most students work those days, as they are studying full time. Having your classmates complain about how being 20 is super old is equally frustrating. This can't be helped though. I'm pretty sure I said the exact same thing at that age. The jump from teens to 20's is a big one. Despite the slight annoyances though, I am glad I decided to go back. I finally have the focus and dedication that was lacking years ago. I'm in a program I enjoy (so far) and there is something comforting to know that I'm just doing it for me, rather than trying to find a job after I'm done.

So for the clothes, this dress is super comfy, and stretchy. Anything with some spandex in it used to make me nervous. I figured it would cling to all my lumps and bumps. I clearly was wearing the wrong sizes when it came to stretchy stuff; lesson learned. This can all be for naught though, if you're wearing a crappy bra that's way to small. You end up getting those weird back lumps, or as I call them: back boobs.

Now for the hair, as I have mentioned many times, I'm always trying out different things to make it look less crappy. In this instance, I tried sock curls. So I'm sure you already know about this, but for those who don't, I would suggest you watch this video. You pretty much go to sleep with sock in your hair rather than curlers. My hair is already curly, but when I try to get bigger curls with some volume, they never really stay. By the end of the day, it sort of just goes back to it being flat, especially at the ends. Now even though socks are softer than some curlers, it's really not super comfortable to sleep on; I feel like I need to point that out. I kept waking up because when I tried to sleep on my sides, my ears would hurt. However, if you're willing to endure that, the results are pretty good. I took this photo after being out and about all day with work and whatnot and the curls still lasted. If you want curly hair, or want a different kind of curl if it's already curly, then I would give it a shot. All it takes is a couple pairs of socks.

Back to pants! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dresses, but every once and awhile, it's nice not to worry about a gust of wind showing off your bits. It's also super satisfying taking them off as the end of the day. A random memory; when I was a child, my mom(who passed away a while back) would come home from work and immediately change in to bummin' around clothes. She didn't work in an office or anything so it wasn't like she was in suits all day, but she would change in to some ratty ass stuff. I never understood why and used to give her a hard time for it. This coming from a kid who used to live in giant over sized t-shirts and boy polos (Also a Puma track jacket, hell yeah!). Now that I'm older with a 9 to 5, I get it. I really really get it. It's like peeling away the work day stress away.  I have this t-shirt I got  at a Tool concert years ago. It's got a giant hole in the armpit and I am never getting rid of it. Just throw it on and some yoga pants and I am good to go for the rest of the night. I would have really liked the chance to tell her she got it right all along.

So a friend of mine gets a discount at Anthropologie, and they had a day where instead of 20% off you'd get 40% instead. I had tried this shirt on in the past but I passed on it because I wanted something else more at the time.I'm glad they still had it when we went back. It's all embroidered flowers and even has some eyelets at the bottom. I'm always concerned with button downs because there's a good chance for button/boob gaps. Man I hate that. This shirt was an ego boost because it's a lot smaller than I would usually wear, and is gap free. It's sleeveless so great for the warmer months but also works well with a cardigan. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to put on a ratty ass t-shirt and make my mother proud.

After much gaming, I decided that Tales of Xillia will be my go to for the rest of the summer. Such important decisions, I know. I managed to play a lot over the last few days, and so far I'm really enjoying it. If you have a PS3 and are in to rpgs, it's worth a shot for sure. A bit of history: when I was a little kid, I hated video games. My brother would never let me touch his SNES and when he did, it would be to destroy me at Street Fighter or Killer Instinct.  I'd sneak in to his room to practice when he wasn't around, but it wouldn't matter. On the rare occasion that I did win, he'd say I cheated and would turn the console off. Ahhh, memories. This went on for awhile until the PS1 came out with Final Fantasy 7. I was 14 when that game was released. That game was a huge part of my teens, as it helped through some particular rough patches that most kids encounter at that age. Who doesn't want to feel like they can save the world? That is a game that I can always go back and play no matter what. I know I'm not the only one who has a soft spot for a particular game or series. Final Fantasy has been my go to series for almost 16 years. Also, I am finally able to beat my brother at Street Fighter. I did it a few years back when Street Fighter 4 came out. I loved every minute of it.

On to the clothes. The dress is one of my few Mod Cloth orders. In a perfect world I would shop there all the time. However, it's a tad pricey with the shipping and fees, so I have to be really sure about what I'm ordering. I generally get my orders very fast although this last one still hasn't arrived and it was shipped mid July. I was a little concerned once I got this dress because of the length, but I think it's alright in the end. Besides, shipping it back and  refunds are always a hassle. I really liked the balloon pattern and because of all the colors, it's fairly easy to match with other articles of clothing. Bonus: pockets! Why don't more dresses have pockets?

Thursday, August 8, 2013

Over the last few days it was nice and cool, and then BAM! Humid as hell all over again. You'd think it was summer or something.

So I took a couple of days off from work since I had ordered some video games and wanted to play them to figure out which one I would devote the rest of my summer too. I do this fairly often and while most people laugh, I enjoy it immensely, so that's all that really matters. Games I will always take vacation days for: Final Fantasy, Zelda, Pokemon and Tales. I ended up buying Dragon's Crown and Tales of Xillia. I've played games from the Tales series for quite some time, so I was super excited about there being a new one. I spent that last 2 days glued to my chair playing games and wearing pjs. I didn't even notice that Dave had gone to buy eggs to make me breakfast. I went back to work today refreshed but also bummed out because now all I want to do is play freaking video games. I think I'll probably devote more time to Tales of Xillia since it seems like it's got a more complex story-line to it. Plus a 60+ hour game really should be played before I head back to school in the fall.

So this is a dress I got a few months ago back in spring, and I have worn a bunch this summer. I just never bothered to photograph it, go figure. It's Old Navy so it was really inexpensive. I'm pretty sure I got it for around 20 bucks or so with their always present coupon codes. I love them for that. This dress is lined as well; makes sense with all the holes, but I like pointing this out because I'm surprised that many dresses aren't. I hate wearing slips...so...much. It's the worst thing in the summer.

I had worn this dress in a previous post, but I thought I'd give it another go since the top half of it was sort of covered in the last one. As you can see, it's got some chevron going on on top. I never really used to wear yellow, other than a mustard cardigan I practically lived in. It recently fell apart after it got snagged quite badly in the dryer. Needless to say, I was super pissed. Anyways, I decided to try yellows out in different shades. It's an easy way to feel summery.

The shoes are a slightly different shade from the dress and are pointy. You can't really tell because my dogs butt is covering them. She sometimes refuses to move for these photos, but it's the only part of my apartment with AC, so I can't say I blame her.

Now on to the hair. So as I had mentioned before, I have incredibly weak, thin and brittle hair. I have lost a lot of it over the years, in part to my carelessness, but also because I suffer from female pattern baldness. First off, I didn't realize that was a thing that women had to deal with, but my dermatologist set me straight on that one. Anyways, because of this, it's sort of hard to style my hair. Anything that requires back combing isn't really the best choice. I mean I do it once in awhile, but I'm always looking for alternatives. What I found works quite well for a bit of a bouffant, is this little foam pad with Velcro around it.I got it at H&M for a couple of bucks and kind of looks like a falsie.  I must have been living under a rock or something because I'm sure this has been around for quite some time. It's amazing and works quite well with thin hair. I managed to cover the entire thing with my hair, although it did take a few tries. I've had the some problems with the sock bun/hair donuts, where it doesn't quite cover them completely. So point being, if you have thin hair and/or don't want to back comb, this little doodad will do the trick for a bump.

Another day, another outfit. I wore this shirt a lot last summer, but for most of this year it's just been sitting in the back of my closet. I'm not sure why, because it's one of my favorites. It's covered in tiny white bicycles, which I know is hard to see in this photo. I am really trying to pair some of my older clothes with some of my newer purchases. I have a rule that if I buy something new, something old has got to go. If I didn't, my closet would have exploded by now. I'm also trying not to purchase anything new (with the exception of a dress to wear to a fancy wedding) until school starts up again in the fall.

The skirt is from Banana Republic. I've worn it a few times and have gotten many compliments on it. At one point I was out at lunch eating a falafel when one of the buttons flew off. That was not a proud moment, but I had a sewing kit at my desk for exactly these types of situations. The buttons on this skirt are pretty flimsy so I needed to sew them on even better. I keep telling myself that the button didn't fly off because I had a food baby but because it was literally dangling by a thread. Yes...let's go with that.

All in all, this is an outfit that is cool enough for the summer but can also transition well in to fall. It's comfortable and work appropriate. Subtle nerd factor here; I paired the shirt and skirt together as a shout out to my favorite Sailor Scout.Go Sailor V!

Just another dress for a hot summer day. We had a couple of friends over for a little BBQ yesterday and this dress seemed to scream "Weekend!" I love nautical themed clothing although I don't do well with water. This dress makes me feel like I might be able to be on a boat and not freak out about it.

I was hesitant to buy this halter dress, but my friends insisted that I get it. I only have one convertible  bra I could wear with it, since going bra-less is not an option, and it's not very comfortable. I imagine most convertible undergarments are meant to be used as means of torture, regardless of what size you are. Sure enough after about half the day went by, it started to dig in the back of my neck. This is obviously not an issue with the dress, but I'm thinking about converting the neck tie bits into actual straps so I can wear it a bit more comfortably. I would be able to wear it at work that way too. My office is pretty lax when it comes to dress codes (people have shown up in pjs) but I'm not sure a halter dress without some kind of cover up is acceptable. Anyways, point being: great dress, crappy bra. The sun glasses are the ones I mentioned in my previous post. I keep thinking about those damn Kate Spade sunglasses though. Curse you Winners!

Lemon and Mint

It's been a long week at work so in an attempt to cheer myself up, I thought I would wear something bright and summery. Yellow it is! It did help a bit and since I finish work early on Fridays during the summer, I decided to look for some new sunglasses. I have to wear glasses all the time, but I have never bothered to invest in a pair of prescription sunglasses. I lose them frequently, so I never want to spend more than 20$ on a pair. I hit up my local Winners (it's the Canadian TJ Maxx) and was on the hunt. I found a wonderful pair of purple Kate Spade sunglasses, but at 70$ I could not justify spending that much. I settled for a nice white and brown pair from Steve Madden for 15 bucks. I figured it would be more practical in terms of them matching outfits, as well as on my wallet.

I'm a big fan of Jacob as a clothing store. Over the past few years they have really started carrying a lot of nice things at affordable prices, or least affordable when they're on sale. The dress was originally 100$ which I thought was a bit much. It's now on sale for 40$. I'm a sucker for stripes, but I don't own much yellow, so I thought this would be a nice addition to my ever growing dress collection. It's made of a nice cotton and it's lined, so I don't have to worry about it being see-through. The length makes it work appropriate and I got a lot of compliments on it. A wise purchase if I do say so myself.

Another hot day, another dress.  I'm trying to wear as many dresses as possible this month, since I have so many (around 20 or so.) There is a reason why in the last couple of years, I started going dress crazy. I was never really able to wear them when I was younger, simply because of the way things fit. Trying to get a dress to fit one part like my chest, meant the rest of it would be huge. Having it fit my waist perfectly and not being able to get the zipper past a certain point happened a lot as well. I spent many a time in changing rooms incredibly frustrated about this. Feeling defeated, I gave up and ended wearing a lot of pants, or when I felt fancy, a shirt/skirt combo. Going to something like a wedding or a Christmas party was the bane of my existence. After a really long time I decided maybe I would try again. I must have been looking in the wrong place or trying on the wrong kind of styles, because since then I have found so many dresses that not only fit, but fit WELL. Some will still look terrible, or won't zip up but I'm glad that I decided to give it another shot.

This particular dress is super comfortable and has got a bit of a stretch to it. The back has a bit of a cut out, so I paired it with a very thin cardigan to still keep cool while I was at work. This dress is a tad short but I tried it with leggings as well and it worked fine, and I didn't overheat in this 30c+ weather. It's very similar to one that was available on Mod Cloth (here) which is no longer available. I'm not sure how much it was going for but I manged to find this dress( which I'm pretty sure is made of the same fabric because the print looks exactly the same) for a decent price. I can't say no to a print :)

I've been off from work this past week which allows for a more casual wardrobe. I wore this out today to hang out and have lunch with a friend. It was a bit humid out and this dress is quite light. My only gripe is that it's hella static prone. Nothing a bit of static spray can't fix.  This is another Yumi piece that I managed to find on sale in a department store. It was supposed to come with a belt but it was missing, which might have been why it was reduced in price. No biggie, it's not like I don't have enough belts.

The shoes; I managed to find while I was in the US earlier in the week. I had been wanting the red glitter Toms for awhile, but they weren't available on the Canadian website anymore. I noticed them right as the store was about to close and they were on sale, so I ran in at the last second. I didn't really need to try them on since I already own several pairs. All in all, the trip was quite successful. I got cheap shoes, a day with friends, and a butt load of snack food they don't sell here; also cereal. Not only is it super cheap in the US, but there is way more choice. I always end up buying peanut butter Cheerios while I'm down there. Best cereal ever!

No meetings/appointments at work= more relaxed clothing. This is the first time wearing this shirt. Originally 65 bucks (pffft) ,I managed to find this rummaging around in a sale section of a department store for 29.99$. Woo! Another Yumi top that I was surprised managed to fit. The front, as you can see, has a floral print, with some beading and sequins in there for good measure, whereas the back is a solid  mint green with a tie at the back. Very nice and light for a warmer day.Bonus for the cute camera drawing on it.

The shoes, oh what an ordeal these shoes were. So I found these a few years ago on clearance for about 20 bucks. Now I'm not one to complain about crappy customer service, I get people have bad days and whatnot, so I try to just ignore it. Well, as I was purchasing these shoes, which I admit might be considered a tad flashy, the girls working at the store pretty much made fun of me the entire time I was in the store. I don't think they realized that I could hear them, or see the vomit gestures they were making when they thought I wasn't paying attention. I left the store feeling super bad about myself, shoes in hand. What made it worse was when I got back I realized the shoes were even cheaper online. So I quickly returned to the store with the shoes saying I wanted my money back since it was 5 bucks less online and that I'm pretty sure their website wouldn't make fun of me or my choice in footwear. The gave me the online price and I was off again feeling somewhat satisfied that I had called them out on their previous behavior. It's unfortunate but the last thing I wanna feel when I shop, is bad about myself. I haven't been back to that particular location since then. Ah well, I'm still wearing the shoes so nuts to them.

I am a fan of prints. Most of my clothing is printed in some way with the exception of pants. I don't think I can pull off printed pants. Maybe I will give it a try at some point, but for now I will stick with dresses and skirts. I saw this dress on street style at some point, probably Chictopia, and as soon as I did, I was on the hunt.  I love cats, so how could I not get this dress? After realizing it was Anthropologie, I figured I was not going to find it for less than 100$ so I gave up for a bit. Well at some point I was searching eBay for deals I managed to find it for 60$ in my size. It also happened to be my birthday around that time, so I casually let my boyfriend Dave,  know what I wanted.(Which means I e-mailed him the link and said get me this!) Once it arrived ( in January), I was just waiting for it to get warmer again for me to wear it. I was a tad concerned with the length, but I always wear gym shorts under my dresses, since it's fairly windy in the city. Am I the only person who does this all the time? Every once in awhile I get made fun of for doing it but it's worth it to not have to worry about flashing people.

The cardigan is also Anthropologie, currently on sale and was originally going for 138$. Seriously, I can't imagine paying that much for a sweater, and if you can afford to shop there at full price, I envy you.

All in all, I was pretty pleased with how this outfit worked, and will probably be wearing this again in the future.

For years I steered clear of color, especially light ones, on my top half. I think it's pretty obvious based on the photos, but I'm quite large in the bust. I used to do the best I could to minimize it, which involved a lot of black and dark colors. Over the last little bit, I've branched out and started to wear a bit more color, and I'm glad I did. I kind of feel like I've been missing out all these years.

So this top has received mix reviews from some of my friends. Some love it, other have told me the print reminds them of hospital scrubs. I saw the dress version of this shirt first and was instantly drawn to it. However, Yumi brand clothing is not always made very big or with much stretch, so the dress was a no go. I couldn't get it to zip up because of my bust and was afraid I was going to break the zipper. When I saw the top made with the same fabric, I was super excited. Not only because it fit, but because the shirt was way cheaper than the dress. The shoes were a splurge. I will buy shoes at the drop of a hat but they have to be really nice and practical if I'm going to spend more than 50 bucks on a shoe. The exception to this rule is winter boots. I was looking at them for awhile on Mod Cloth but since I'm in Canada, I'm always hesitant with buying things from American retailers, mostly because shipping and returns are a bitch. I decided to hold off until I manged to find them at a Canadian retailer, which I did!

Blue Monday

Another work day outfit.  If you had told the teenage me that I would have a closet full of skirts and dresses, I probably would have laughed at you. Something happened over the years that caused my clothing choices to veer towards super girly. I'm not complaining or anything, just noticing how sometimes things can drastically change while some things don't. Like my love of Sailor Moon; that's been going on for at least 15 years now and teenage me would be super pissed if I ever let that go.

This skirt was something I was scouting at Anthropologie for awhile now. I really wanted it, but wasn't willing to pay the 148$ is was originally going for. So I just waited...it went down to 79.99$; still too much I figured. I have gotten things there for 10 bucks before, so I just needed to figure how long I was willing to wait before they ran out of my size. By the time it got down to 39.99$ with only one size 8 left I decided that would be my chance. Since I had already tried it on previously, I ran in and out super fast. I'm glad I bought it when I did, because while it's even cheaper now (19.99$) I still paid a price I was comfortable with and got my size. Good things come to those who wait...and who are cheap.

Light blue lace t-shirt: Joe Fresh 14.00$
Blue and white bird skirt: Anthropologie 39.99$

So I have to admit that my hair is a sensitive issue. I had actually been coloring it since I was in my teens, usually just black; not anything over the top. When I hit my 20's though, I went all out. Pink was my color of choice but I had done pretty much every color I could get my hands on. The problem with this is all the bleaching I had done, consistently, for at least 5 years. I realized I had to stop when I noticed I was going bald from it. I never thought much of it, figuring that it would just grow back after I gave my hair a long enough break. Well it turns out that wasn't the case, as I was told that due to the wonderful world of genetics and years of bad dye jobs, that a long break wasn't going to be enough.

In order to cover the thinning areas on my head, I got me some blunt bangs. Needless to say I have not seen my forehead in years. Today, I just decided, maybe on a whim, maybe because I woke up late and didn't have time to meticulously style my bangs, that I would just let my hair do it's natural thing ( I clearly have curly, often frizzy hair), and pin the bangs to the side. The reaction I got was surprising to say the least, with some people not even recognizing me. All it took was 4 bobby pins, go figure. I think it's a sign that I need to change up the hair styles every once in awhile.

On to the clothes: This cardigan is by far one of my most favorite recent purchases. It's so embellished that I really don't need to do much else with the rest of the outfit. Also, when I stand near a window I pretty much blind people with all the beading and sequins. So it's both flashy and defensive :) I figured I could pair this with my black sequined Toms that I got last summer, to go with some of the sparkle from the top half. I have a lot of Toms but these ones are by far my favorite.

Apples and Pears

Like most people out there, I have some issues when it comes to sizing. Sometimes clothes just don't fit you in the right spots. I have always wanted to learn how to sew, mostly because I thought it could save me some money, but also I would be able to make stuff that fits me specifically.

A friend of mine came over during the weekend to teach me the basics. We hit up our local fabric store and went to town. I chose a basic circle skirt that required limited skill to make. That being said, she did help me with most of this project but I learned a lot. My goal is to make one without her help to see if I was paying attention. I chose this fabric because I love a busy print and it had apples on it. I have this thing for prints with fruit, so this fabric had a lot going for it. They had one with potatoes too but I thought that was a bit much; maybe next time when I'm feeling more rustic. All in all, I am extremely happy with how this came out and I'm looking forward to trying to make more clothing in the future. I got a lot of compliments on it too, which helps with the motivation.

Biz Caz Fri

This is the first time that it's really started to feel a bit like summer. That means really REALLY humid. The next few days will consist of making suppers that don't involve an oven. That means a lot of sandwiches and cold salads.

This dress is perfect to beat the heat. It's made with a jersey material and it has a nice open back. I wore this to work and slapped on a cream cardigan if the AC in the office got into overdrive. Even better is that this dress has significant stretch, so if you're on the busty side like yours truly, you won't feel the dreaded boob crush that comes with a lot of dresses.

Red Dress: Anthropologie *currently on sale* 79.99$ (Buy it here)
Brown Belt: Ardene  9.50$ (Buy it here)
Brown Peter Pan Collar Flats: 1861 29.99$ (They were available on ModCloth for awhile but I think they are sold out now.)

Fake Monday

First day back to work after being off for over a week. I needed a break for awhile and it was wonderful. I got a lot done around the house and still managed to watch a lot of TV (Arrested Development anyone?)

So my office isn't somewhere with a strict dress code, people can wear jeans and sneakers, it's not a big deal. That being said, I do have to meet with people fairly often so I try to avoid that on days I have meetings. This green dress is quite practical for that, however, it's a bit short so I can't wear it without tights.
